Mid - Year Book Freak Out Tag - 2023

I can't believe, we're already halfway through 2023. Time really flies by. So, of course, I had to do the Book Tag which is the tradition each year.

1 - Best Book you've read so far in 2023

That's tough competition, but I will choose two since I'm very indecisive. First, is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. A beautiful book that will remind you why you love reading. Second, This Book Kills by Ravena Guron. A unique murder-mystery set in a boarding school. The plot twists are great.

2 - Best sequel you've read so far in 2023

We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal. It's the sequel to We Hunt the Flame. It's one of the best Ya series. With a new refreshing fantasy setting that's unique to this world. The characters are well-written, the fantasy plot is interesting and the romance subplot is just great.

3 - New release you haven't read yet but want to

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty. I saw clockwork reads mention it and I loved the concept for it. I really need to read this book.

4 - Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

One of Us is Back by Karen M. McManus which is the third book in One of Us is Lying. I have loved the drama in this series and will be very sad when it ends. Another one is Swordcatcher by Cassandra Clare, it's her first proper book set outside of the Shadowhunter Universe, so I'm a little nervous to read it.

5 - Biggest Disappointment

Gods and Monsters by Shelby Mahurin. This was the final book in the Serpent and Dove trilogy and I was really disappointed. The climax wasn't hard-hitting and it felt like the characters went the reverse way in character development.

6 - Biggest Surprise

Babel by R.F Quang. This is one of the most hyped-up books of 2022, so I had big expectations, and those expectations were met. I loved this book so much. The characters, the plot, and the themes were so well-written and the writing was beautiful.

7 - Favorite New Author

Ravena Guron, the author of This Book Kills. Whenever her next book comes out, I'm ordering it the first day. I loved the way she constructed the mystery. The reveal at the end was done in the perfect manner.

8 - Newest Favorite character

I have four. First, Zachary from Starless Sea, I found him super relatable and I just loved him so much. Second, Dorian, also from Starless Sea, was such an entertaining character to read about. Third, Richard from The Secret History, this man was clueless, and he was just like me, though he was annoying because of the choices he made, I would have made the exact same choices. Last but not least, Francis, I love this character so much, and he deserved so much better.

9 - Books that made you cry

I Fell in Love with Hope by Lancalli. This book was so emotional and heartbreaking. This didn't just break my heart. It crushed it to pieces and stomped all over it. 5 out of 5 stars. Would recommend.

10 - Books that made you happy

Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman. This series makes me so happy. The characters are so adorable. It's funny and heartwarming. It also deals with teenage issues while keeping it light-hearted.

11 - The most beautiful book you've bought so far this year

None - I do not buy special edition books and for me, all my books are beautiful

12 - What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. This year, Babel and The Secret History have really gotten me into Dark Academia, and after The Secret History, it's everyone's second favorite Dark Academia Book. I just need to read it.

13 - Favorite book-to-movie adaptation you've seen this year

Daisy Jones and the Six. Listen this wasn't exactly perfect but I still loved it, the setting and vibes were perfect. Songs matched the show. Simone's additional storyline was great and added so much more to her character. Some characters were not so well done but some were. But overall, a good adaptation, I really liked it.

Happy Reading...
