The Starless Sea - Book Review

It is a book about magic, mystery, complex characters, and how each story overlaps and intertwines with another account.

The Summary

Zachary Rawlins finds a book about his life in a library, and he decides to follow it where it goes, only to find his story is just a part of a larger one. A story about a library, lovers, friends, and most of all - time, fate, and death.

The Character Reviews

I only character I can review without spoiling the book is Zachary.

- He is a complex character, who feels vulnerable and emotional. He has a hard time making decisions and that's one of the few realistic about him. He is a book lover and that's always a plus point.

The Positives

- Erin Morgenstern always writes beautiful, lyrical stories. It's well thought out and leaves no threads open.

- The characters are complex and almost feel real. Not all have tragic backstories but still feel raw in terms of their stories.

- The plot is intriguing and interesting. In terms of storytelling, this book is truly a masterpiece.

The Negatives

- The book does feel slow at times. Considering it has a million points of view.

- The ending is open and that may frustrate a lot of readers but it is the best ending the author could have given it.

Tropes

- Non action hero

- Masquerade Ball

- Book about books

- Stories in stories

- Star-crossed lovers
