  • Poetry Pages - Chapter 3

It's a holiday, I have work but I just wanted to write some poetry. Can't blame a person. Poetry is the way to the soul and maybe I just wanted to reach some souls. So, I am going to keep this introduction short and just get to the poems... Lose Someone Sometimes you have to lose someone to find yourself, Cause' nothing is more deadly than the lies tell yourself. Better lose tasty poison for bland water, Better leave, than stay and do self - slaughter. Better be a dusty book on the shelf, Rather than, be a burned one. Better be a simple song lyrics, Rather than, be a forgotten one. Better be smiling for simple reasons, Rather than, for the wrong reasons. Better be yourself, Rather than becoming a copy of someone else. 2. Who have We Become? Occasionally, listen to the world, Sometimes even liars speak the truth. Our so called hate, Consumed us in red flames, Confession came a little late, When the fires had been tamed. Who Have We Become ? Listening to everyone. False insults we had strung, Untrue lyrics we had sung, But after all we were young, We were foolish and dumb. I think I have learnt, Never believe anyone. 3. Waning Gibbous Phase On the night of waning gibbous phase, I stay awake, thinking of you. I stare at the moon, Humming a silent tune. Did you type the truth or I chose to believe it ? Was it an empty apology, or a real one possibly ? I think of it all, details big and small. After forgiveness regrets, come at night. In the dim light, I think about our fight. Should I have given it, I sit and think in the room dim lit. 4. I Think my heart no longer beats I think my heart no longer beats, Cause' it is left in pieces. Once, when everything was nice, Now all is evil and vice. Always fighting had consequences, Always using false, untrue sentences. History is always painful, Trying to have obtain something that isn't yours. But ours was beyond that, Now, on apologies we sat. Now, I don't know what to do, What is false ? What is true ? I think my heart no longer beats For you. 5. I care too much I care too much, I sometimes hold a grudge. You are the song of my love, You are the song of the detest. You are the book, I worship, You are the book, I despise. You are the dance of my devotion, You are the dance of my fury You are the poetry stuck in my head, You are the poetry that makes me feel nothing. God, these emotions are baffling, Can't decide which song to sing, Can't decide which book to read, Can't decide which dance to do, Can't decide which poetry to write. 6. No sense Slow torture is the deadliest killer. You see me, yet do not. You know situation, yet ask the wrong questions, You understand me, yet forget simplest things. They ask you to be happy, But do not see my sadness, Small things break me everyday, But after all I still stay. There is a wrong way to be happy, I should know, But I do not pay heed Cause any kind of happiness is all I need. ................................................................................... That is all Happy reading and poetry!

  • Poetry Pages - Chapter 1

I have been writing poetry for like forever, I don't know, I never track. But I do know that I love writing. So I thought, why not put it on the blog? I decided to name these poetry pages, basic but it does the work. For the first one, I am just putting 1 poem and maybe later on I will put 4- 5 in one blog. So I present to you one of my best-written poems, I feel, Truth of Life... I met Death again in my sleep last night, It's been a lot of time since we last met, Don't remember if it was centuries or just days ago, We sat and talked near the grave. It wasn't dark and gloomy, But full of light. Death isn't all black robes and skulls But full of realization and understanding He asked me about Life, "How is she?", like an old lover, reminiscing his times with her, I told him about Life, And he silently listened, as if listening to his favorite song, "Becoming better and better as time passes by" "Ah! Time, my old cruel kind friend Only his cruelty makes a person grow, But I am glad to hear about life, but who knows where she might go", Death said. I just replied, "And when she's done going from highest to lowest, She might leave, only to come back again. Death smiled and said, "Time wasn't exactly at your side at first Until you made him your friend So is the same with life Sometimes she is your biggest foe, Sometimes she is your most nice friend But alas, in the end Even the best of friends leave", I asked,"Made them my friends once, Would do it again, Some friends are worth the trouble" Death, at this surprised, asked, "So you know?", I just replied, " Well you just don't visit daily", Death then said," I was glad to see you grow, from your last birth to this one, you have changed, May your soul ever grow wiser, Until the next time we meet, Let's go, Life is waiting for another reunion, and Time awaits his friend." I didn't wake up my old self the next day.

  • The Folk of the Air - Does it Live up to the Hype ?

Holly Black's most popular fantasy is one that the Bookternet loves but does it live up to the hype? The answer from me is a big YES! When I first read it, I read it for a readathon and honestly, I was a bit worried because if I didn't like the first book I won't be interested in the rest of the series but boy, I was wrong. I started the first book at 9 in the morning and ended the third book at 4 in the evening. I read the series in one sit and I fell in love with it. Sorry, I was so busy gushing about the series that I forgot to tell you what's it about. The Folk of the Air follows Jude Duarte, a mortal girl in the land of Fae. When she was little she saw her parents murdered right in front of her eyes. After that, the killer abducts Jude and her sisters - Vivi, her older sibling, and Taryn, her twin sister and takes them to Elflame, the land of Fae. Jude then learns to be deceptive and quickly understands that power comes at a price. I am going to break my review into 4 parts - The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, The Queen of Nothing, and then the complete series review. Book 1 - The Cruel Prince So as you can tell, it is a fantasy and the only thing I like after mysteries are fantasy. Considering this is the first book in a fantasy series it has a lot of info dump moments and can be hard to understand the politics at times. Despite that, it's a fun book. There is a lot of Fae politics in Faerie Court. Since they are humans in this world they are looked down on at times. Jude and her sister Taryn are bullied a lot at their lessons by Cardan, Locke, Nicasia, and Valerian. You could say that they are like the rich kids at school. They hate Jude and Taryn and they hate them too. I think the main plot would be about Jude finding her place in this world and she is going to do everything she can to find even if it means killing, spying, cheating, and lying. Trust me when I say Jude is not an ideal role model but I still love her. I would love to be her minus the killing, spying, cheating, and lying part. The plot twists are amazing. Throughout the whole book, there are so many betrayals that I have lost count and so many shocking twists. There was not one moment of boredom. What I also love about this book is that all the characters are very different from one another. They all have something to bring to the table for some entertainment. Loved it, go read it now. Age Group - 14+ Genre - Fantasy, Romance Rating - 4.2 / 5 Book 2 - The Wicked King I don't think I will share much on the synopsis of the book considering it has very mild spoilers according to me. I think the next 2 books are going to be hard to review without spoilers but I will try my best. After a cliffhanger in the last book which I can't discuss, Jude and Cardan are now sorts of working in the High Court of Faerie (Sorry, this is hard to review without spoilers). They both still hate each other, but do they? These turn up the political drama even if you don't like the first book, read this one and then make your opinion. In my experience, you should always read the second book in the series before forming an opinion. There are going to be characters you love and then there are characters you want to see burn in hell. There is no in-between. This time the main plot follows Jude in the court trying to work as she has finally made her place except for this time, there might be a traitor lurking in the shadows. This book gives us more of Cardan *thankfully* and also gives a focus on his backstory. It dives deep into the workings of the court and its strategies to avoid war. And without spoiling anything, you might be shocked with the ending and yes, it's a cliffhanger. Good Luck, but trust me this one is better than the last. Age Group - 14+ Genre - Fantasy, Romance Rating - 5 / 5 Book 3 - The Queen of Nothing This one is also going to be hard to review without spoilers as you know something major happened at the end of the last book. But you know what, I will try my best. Let's just say, Jude is the outcome of the last book. There is a war coming at Elflame and Jude will do whatever it takes to defend the world that hates her. I know it sounds vague but kindly just go with it. Cardan is still working in the High Court of Elflame. And believe it or not, he misses Jude. If you have read the books, you know what I mean. In the last blockbuster of a final book, the action is just next level and so is the politics. Honestly, I was shocked through the whole second half. By the time I reached the epilogue, I was so sad. Not because the book was sad or it was bad but because I was so attached to the characters that I didn't want to let go of them after the last page. Once again Holly Black outdid herself. Better than the Last! Age Group - 14+ Genre - Fantasy, Romance Rating - 5.5 / 5 The Folk of the Air Overview One of my all-time favorite series. I love it. Jude and Cardan are the two characters I love the most in this series. There are also some other characters I like but they are the ones I love. What I love about Jude is that she didn't keep quiet. She always fights back and she is a true Queen. Then there is Cardan, my cruel prince, yes, it is named after him. Despite him being mean, horrible, terrible, wicked, and everything bad, I loved him from the word he ever said. I would recommend this series till the day I die!

  • A Good Girl's Guide to "Entertainment" - A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, the Trilogy Review

Holly Jackson's debut novel follows Pippa 'Pip' Fitz-Amobi solving the murder of Andie Bell that took place five years ago for her final year school project. Only problem - the murderer is already known, and he is Sal Singh, the boyfriend of the murdered who killed himself after Andie. But Pip thinks that there is more to tell. If the murderer is not Sal, then it means the murderer is still in town and might even go to desperate measures to keep it hidden. Above is the synopsis of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, interesting isn't it? The trilogy consists of "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder", "Good Girl, Bad Blood" and "As Good as Dead". And trust me each is better than the last. I am an avid murder mystery reader, and while searching for new books, every booktube video and internet recommendation has suggested this book. After seeing this for the tenth time, I finally gave in and ordered the whole set. Did I love it or did I love it? Honestly one of the best books I have ever read. Also, one of my all-time favorites. I am going to break down my review into 4 parts - The first book, the second one, the third one, and then the complete series review. Book 1 - A Good Girl's Guide to Murder By reading the synopsis you can tell, it is a murder mystery thriller. This is one of the pretty hyped up books on TikTok. When I started reading I had a lot of expectations, I had Great Expectations {Get it! - It's a book on a book review on a book blog??}. Along with a story it also has pages of Pip's production logs, interviews, evidence, and clues. So, straight from the first chapter, we dive direct into the story with Pip investigating or researching for her school project. First, she tries to talk to Ravi who is Sal's brother and a major character in the trilogy as Pip's Watson (we all want a Watson to our Sherlock, don't we?). In the starting chapters, we are introduced to the characters - Pip's mom and stepfather (Just because he is a stepfather doesn't mean he's evil, He is one of my favorite characters and one of the best Book Fathers), her adorable brother (He calls her Pippo Hippo, for some reason I find it very cute), her dog - Barney and her friends Cara and Lauren. It deals with important topics. It's fast-paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Honestly, the plot twists are killer and I didn't see them coming. Truth Time: I was spoiled for one plot twist, so I knew it was coming but the surprising turn of events that came afterward made me scream from shock, actually scream, my mother was asking me what the hell happened and all I did was, show her the book and kept on reading. One of the books you can't keep down! Pages - 433 Age Group - 13+ Score - 4.6/5 Book 2 - Good Girl, Bad Blood This time as you read, Pip has a podcast. It's called Pip's Podcast, just kidding, it's called A Good Girl's Guide to Murder credits to *spoiler alert* her boyfriend, Ravi Singh. Honestly, one of my favorite otps, I could actually talk about these two all day. I mean petition for every boyfriend to be like Ravi Singh. Ok, I will stop before I spoil anything major. In the second book, Pip is over crime and just wants a simple life after finishing up her podcast's first and only season which is based on the previous case. After posting her last podcast episode, Pip has to a public event (Can't actually tell you what it is, kinda spoils the book). After the events, when Pip comes home , one of her friends, Connor tells her his brother Jamie has gone missing. Though reluctant at first Pip takes the case.Except this time people really doubt her as they think she is faking the case for a second season. The more Pip looks into the case the more she figures out about a conspiracy in the town. This one is big on the theme of cyber security. It was better than the first book not falling into the second book syndrome. The turn of events that happens in the second half of the book will through you off your seat. What was surprising about this book is that the climax was actually action packed. It was like pieces of a puzzle quickly fitting in place one by one. Advice for reading this book - Keep a tissue with you. I think the ending actually broke me. It also ties a few loose ends we forgot in book 1.The last person I would think of was guilty and the last person I would think of was the victim. Pages - 417 Age - 13+ Score - 4.8/5 Book 3 - As Good as Dead I can't actually review this book without spoiling the two, but you know what, I will try. This time Pip has a stalker but that isn't the only thing on her mind. She has become really disturbed from the last case she solved which had a really dark ending. She is trying to get her life back on track. She is actually looking for murder cases near her college to calm her and distract herself from her last case. But when she starts getting stalked she decides to look into it. When she starts finding connections of her stalker with the town serial killer, her world goes from dark to even darker. This last book is all the missing pieces from the previous installments finally coming rounding all the way back to Andie Bell who might have more secrets than Pip thought she had. This is definitely one of the most darkest books I have ever read and loved. I still think about this in my free time or when I am in bed and that my friends is a sign of a good book. In the beginning of the series Pip was a morally strong character that believed that police and court could give justice. But by the time the series ends she no longer believes that. She believes that the court cannot always take the right decisions, sometimes the innocents are jailed and the guilty are free. She has also learned that sometimes you have to take justice in your own hands. The ending of this book is really heartbreaking would really recommend to read with a tissue nearby. So sad that I actually had to read Fanfic to calm myself *yes, it was that bad* but despite that the ending gives real hope. Pages - 459 Age - 14+ Score - 6.5/5 Series Review 10/5 series. Really loved it. One of the Best trilogies I have ever read. Handles social causes and themes nicely. Each one has a unique plot. The trilogy as a whole is like a puzzle which fits together when you finish the last book. Pip has one of the character arcs I have ever seen. I feel like have watched her grow. She can be brave at times and she can be afraid at times like an actual person. She experiences grief of other people and her own. When investigating she learns that things are not as they always seen, that a person you have known could have such a dark past. She has learned that enemies can grow to be friends and that friends can grow to be enemies. If I had to choose one favourite character from this whole series, it has to be Ravi Singh *sorry Pip, still love you *. He is one of the best characters I have ever read. He is sweet and kind. And despite everything that has happened in his life he still tries his best. Even with being named a murderer's brother. His relationship with Pip is one of the highlights if the series - their banter, their trust and even their last promise (Read the last book and you'll understand). And for some reason I feel like mentioning this *not relevant to the plot but I still love it* fact that Ravi calls Pip - Sarge. Really I could not recommend this series enough. Go read it !

  • The Magic of Books

📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖 Often people say that magic does not exist. Well, these people have not read books. We, as people who love books believe that magic exists as words on a page. You never know where those simple words might transport you; you never know how a few pages of mere words may move you; you never know how a book could make you feel a rush of emotions you never felt. Today, with just a few words on this page, let me introduce to you, the magic of books. There are different kinds of magic in different types of books and you never know what kind of magic you'll fall in love with. You will find enchantment in every story. It might be about a boy who lived under the stairs and then went on to defeat an evil sorcerer, or rather it might be about a girl with a bow and arrow who takes down the corrupt government, or rather, it might be about a man in London who smokes a pipe and solves baffling cases with his partner, or rather it may be a simple story where two people fall in love. One of the best things about books is that they can make you feel a dozen of emotions and feelings, without even making you move in your seat. They can make you curious as they introduce you to characters that make a place in your heart, befriend you, characters that are absolutely real to you, so real, that their pain becomes your pain. They can have you biting your nails nervously as you root for these people that breathe in the words on the paper. They will have you praying for them to survive their hardships, hoping that they finally have their peace. They can have you laughing and gasping out loud. They will have moments you will remember more clearly than the definitions you learned for your exams. They will have you crying and sobbing at their deaths. People around you will ask, "Why are you crying about the death of a person that doesn't even exist?" The answer is simple. They were real to you. Books might also make you cry as they end. It may be because of a sad ending as after all the struggles that the characters went through, they still didn't have their happily ever after, or they might have a happy ending, and you may be crying happy tears as you see characters who were in so much pain finally get their happy ending; or you might be in tears because the story you may have found a home in may have found serenity in, has come to a close. It's almost like you have to bid a close friend the last goodbye. So, in the end, all I have to say is, explore this magic and treasure. Go on adventures with characters with whom you find comfort. Maybe read about solving daring cases, fighting fears in a haunted house, having a whirlwind, or a tragic love story, a quest with friends to save the world from evil, or dueling with a wizard or a dragon. And always remember, in the words of the brilliant author Stephen King -"Books are a uniquely portable magic."

  • Mid - Year Book Freak Out Tag - 2023

I can't believe, we're already halfway through 2023. Time really flies by. So, of course, I had to do the Book Tag which is the tradition each year. 1 - Best Book you've read so far in 2023 That's tough competition, but I will choose two since I'm very indecisive. First, is The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. A beautiful book that will remind you why you love reading. Second, This Book Kills by Ravena Guron. A unique murder-mystery set in a boarding school. The plot twists are great. 2 - Best sequel you've read so far in 2023 We Free the Stars by Hafsah Faizal. It's the sequel to We Hunt the Flame. It's one of the best Ya series. With a new refreshing fantasy setting that's unique to this world. The characters are well-written, the fantasy plot is interesting and the romance subplot is just great. 3 - New release you haven't read yet but want to The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty. I saw clockwork reads mention it and I loved the concept for it. I really need to read this book. 4 - Most anticipated release for the second half of the year One of Us is Back by Karen M. McManus which is the third book in One of Us is Lying. I have loved the drama in this series and will be very sad when it ends. Another one is Swordcatcher by Cassandra Clare, it's her first proper book set outside of the Shadowhunter Universe, so I'm a little nervous to read it. 5 - Biggest Disappointment Gods and Monsters by Shelby Mahurin. This was the final book in the Serpent and Dove trilogy and I was really disappointed. The climax wasn't hard-hitting and it felt like the characters went the reverse way in character development. 6 - Biggest Surprise Babel by R.F Quang. This is one of the most hyped-up books of 2022, so I had big expectations, and those expectations were met. I loved this book so much. The characters, the plot, and the themes were so well-written and the writing was beautiful. 7 - Favorite New Author Ravena Guron, the author of This Book Kills. Whenever her next book comes out, I'm ordering it the first day. I loved the way she constructed the mystery. The reveal at the end was done in the perfect manner. 8 - Newest Favorite character I have four. First, Zachary from Starless Sea, I found him super relatable and I just loved him so much. Second, Dorian, also from Starless Sea, was such an entertaining character to read about. Third, Richard from The Secret History, this man was clueless, and he was just like me, though he was annoying because of the choices he made, I would have made the exact same choices. Last but not least, Francis, I love this character so much, and he deserved so much better. 9 - Books that made you cry I Fell in Love with Hope by Lancalli. This book was so emotional and heartbreaking. This didn't just break my heart. It crushed it to pieces and stomped all over it. 5 out of 5 stars. Would recommend. 10 - Books that made you happy Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman. This series makes me so happy. The characters are so adorable. It's funny and heartwarming. It also deals with teenage issues while keeping it light-hearted. 11 - The most beautiful book you've bought so far this year None - I do not buy special edition books and for me, all my books are beautiful 12 - What books do you need to read by the end of the year? If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. This year, Babel and The Secret History have really gotten me into Dark Academia, and after The Secret History, it's everyone's second favorite Dark Academia Book. I just need to read it. 13 - Favorite book-to-movie adaptation you've seen this year Daisy Jones and the Six. Listen this wasn't exactly perfect but I still loved it, the setting and vibes were perfect. Songs matched the show. Simone's additional storyline was great and added so much more to her character. Some characters were not so well done but some were. But overall, a good adaptation, I really liked it. Happy Reading...

  • How to Write a Poem

I am sure if you're a poetry lover, you probably have thought "I should write some" and then scraped the idea thinking "I don't know how", well it's time to make it a reality. So without wasting time, let's write a poem. # Decide on your topic or theme There are a billion topics and themes to write about. It doesn't have to be elite or super popular. All that matters is that the topic is important to you. If it's about a person it should come easily if you're close to them and care about them. If it's about a certain theme, it comes naturally if you're really passionate about the subject. If you don't feel about something that way feel free to pick a prompt that you can just search online. # Decide how you want to start The first line should be gripping. Decide if you want to write in the first person or do you want it to be told as a story. Also, decide if you want it to be a certain type of poetry. If it's your first poem it's not necessary but there are a lot of types of poetry if you want to choose from. # The Flow Go with the flow and it's you that decides the next line. Think about where you want to end the poem and how you will get there. If you are writing to a certain rhyme scheme and need rhyme words, you search for them online or feel free to break them. Depends on you. # The Ending The final line should feel satisfying to you. If you're not satisfied, keep writing. If the poem doesn't end on a meaningful note it doesn't impact the reader. After you read it whole the first time, see if there is a need for edits. Feel free to change lines and even swap them around. - Remember the first time you write it won't be the greatest. You'll get better the more you write. You need to accept not every poem might be good but remember the more you write the more goodness will start appearing in your poems. Write your poems and send them to me I would like to dedicate this post to my dear friend who got inspired by me and taught me that I am an aspiring person. I would also like to dedicate this post to the person who couldn't write a single poem. Keep Writing...

  • How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao Book Review

Summary Nancy Luo was shocked to learn that Jamie Luan, Sinclair Prep's best junior and former best friend, disappeared and was later found dead. She was even more shocked when rumors spread that she and her friends Krystal, Akil, and Alexander were the prime suspects, thanks to the "Proctor," who anonymously convicted Nancy through her school's social media apps. They were all once Jamie's best friends, and she knew their deepest, darkest secrets and they were buried with her. Well, somehow the director knows them too. The four must unearth the true culprit before they unearth more than Proctor can handle and cost them more than they can afford, including Nancy's full scholarship. Nancy soon begins to suspect that her friends also have secrets she knows nothing about. Elite preparatory students must deal with their own secrets when they are revealed but how far the "Proctor" will go... Positives Strong characters with well-written backstories and great aspects. Realistic dialogues and eloquent scenes. Brilliant build-up till the climax and it keeps you hooked. The dark side and the pressures of academics were confronted. Interesting character dynamics that are amusing to read. Negatives Though the build-up to the climax was amazing, the climax itself let me down. It felt too surreal and it felt like it came out of nowhere. The romantic plot line between the friends (Nancy and Alexander) was necessary and was not needed. Rating & Age Group ⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 13+ Till the next ! Happy Reading

  • My Life in Books Tag

As a voracious reader, books are my life. So, of course, when I saw this tag, I immediately needed to do it. So, without wasting time, the "My Life in Books" - Book Tag... Find a book for your first initial: I will say, the first book was absolutely amazing, five stars. But as the series went on, the stars went down. The second book was four stars and the last one was three. Overall a four-star series. Would Recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Count your age along your bookshelf: What book do you land on? Well-written murder mystery. Great use of first-person writing styles. One of the best plot twists I have ever read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A book set in your city/country Set in the beautiful hills of Kasmir. The story is about a man who every evening sits at his shop and tells some children stories from old folklore. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A book that represents a destination that you’d love to travel to I know, you either love this series or hate it, I am on the loving side. I would love to visit Velaris, a lot. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A book that’s your favorite color The second book in "The Ember in the Ashes" series. One of the best young adult series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Which book do you have the fondest memories of? It was the first proper book I ever read. And you could say I fell down the rabbit hole of books. If you get it, you get it, if you don't, you don't. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Which book did you have the most difficulty reading? This was long, filled with emotions and plot twists. I remember being stressed out by the end of it. But a great book nonetheless. ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 Which book on your tbr will give you the most satisfaction to finish? I am not the best at reading old classics but I really want to read this one. I hope I do. Till the Next Happy Reading

This is mine and you could use it as ideas for yours Places:- Go to your favorite author's new book release I would personally love to go to Cassandra Clare's book launch events and meet her Go join a book club What better way to spread bookish joy and love than to discuss and gush over it with other book lovers unless you have different opinions. Visit the most beautiful libraries There are a lot of lists of the most beautiful libraries in the world, pick one and visit them all. Go to a book-themed party Considering you love reading books you might not like parties but what about book-themed parties, dress up as your favorite character and have fun with other bookworms. - read a historical fiction book in a historical place What better way to be immersed in a story than to read it where it takes place. - Go to Shakespeare globe theatre If you are a Bard lover you'll love this. Go watch his plays and have fun Visit places from a book Go to the places where your character went. Imagine you are there with them. Visit famous bookstores We all would love doing this, just buying books. Better yet buy them at famous bookstores.
